PRESS RELEASE: Statement in Response to Federal Government’s Announcement of a Zero-Emissions Vehicle Strategy

TORONTO, ON – “Pollution Probe is delighted to stand behind the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting a smart, efficient and well-coordinated transition to low and zero-emissions vehicles in Canada.

Electric vehicles offer a rare opportunity in the policy sphere, a true win-win.

From the policy-maker’s perspective, the fact that transportation is Canada’s second-highest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions is obviously a factor driving our collective goal – to accelerate the acceptance and take-up of next generation, low emission technologies.

From the consumer’s perspective, it’s critical to note that electric vehicles are already a mature technology, providing drivers with attractive, high-performance and increasingly affordable alternatives to the combustion engine.

We will continue to actively encourage and support this kind of coordinated, collaborative effort undertaken by government, environmental NGOs, and auto sector stakeholders.”
