National symposium on low-carbon energy innovation

Pollution Probe and QUEST Canada co-hosted the Low-Carbon Energy Innovation (LCEI) Symposium, Unleashing the Future of Energy, on June 10, 2025, in Toronto. The event brought leaders and innovators from across the country (and beyond!) together, including policymakers, regulators, utilities, energy users, Indigenous partners, and industry experts, to tackle one of the most pressing questions of our time: how do we accelerate low-carbon innovation within Canada’s energy sector?

The day kicked off with a keynote from Duke Benjamin on Seizing the Energy Moment, setting an energizing tone for the event. Two dynamic TED-style talk panels, moderated by Pollution Probe’s Ruth Kiro and QUEST Canada’s Andy Nikiforuk, sparked vital conversations on innovation in regulated utilities (natural gas and electricity) and unregulated energy sectors. We were also honoured to host François Émond, Commissioner of Québec’s Régie de l’énergie, who brought a valuable provincial lens to the national dialogue.

Afternoon breakout sessions gave attendees the chance to dive deeper into three critical themes: Net-Zero Policies, Energy Innovation & Regulation, and Inclusive Innovation & Workforce, ensuring that all attendees had the opportunity to contribute to shaping the discussions.
