Ontario’s energy system is changing fast. Solar, wind, and clean energy storage projects are coming to communities across the province — but too often, rural, remote, and Indigenous communities have little say in how that happens. Pollution Probe and QUEST Canada developed the Low-Carbon Energy Innovation Community Framework specifically to change that.
These “choose your own adventure” guides were built with rural, remote, and Indigenous communities in mind. Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, the frameworks are flexible, practical and designed to reflect the unique priorities, cultures, and capacities of each community, recognizing that mainstream energy models have too often left these communities behind.
We recently hosted a webinar to showcase the frameworks and to feature real stories from communities already leading the way. Hear how the SPEEDIER project in Parry Sound is advancing local clean energy solutions, and how Garden River First Nation is harnessing solar power on their own terms. These case studies show what’s possible when communities are able to shape their own energy future.
Pollution Probe has long worked with communities of all types across Canada. This project aims to ensure that rural, remote, and Indigenous communities across Ontario are able to benefit from the energy transition.
