Join the Environmental Protection Team by making pre-authorized monthly contributions to provide ongoing financial support. This helps to establish a stable and reliable source of funding that allows Pollution Probe to plan its work into the future.

Your gift is automatically made through your bank account or credit card each month, allowing us to reduce mail-outs, to use less paper and to keep administrative costs low.

An official donation receipt, covering your total contributions to Pollution Probe during the year, will be mailed to you in February. You will receive a copy of Pollution Probe’s newsletter by mail or email. Our newsletter updates donors on the environmental issues important to them, whether in their daily lives or on a larger scale, as well as keeps them abreast of our activities, reports and public events.

Preserve the Future through a planned gift, leaving your own legacy to the environment by supporting an organization that you know and trust. Once you have taken care of the needs of your family and loved ones, you may also wish to consider making a positive impact on the world by leaving a charitable bequest to The Pollution Probe Foundation. It may be one of the most valuable gifts that you make.

By planning your bequest, you can eliminate significant estate taxes. Your estate may claim gifts in the year of your death equal to 100 per cent of your net income in that and the preceding year.

There are many ways to leave a lasting legacy. Discussions with your family and your legal and financial advisors can help you to determine which option is best for you:

Bequests through your will are the easiest way to include Pollution Probe as part of your legacy. Your lawyer can help make sure that your will meets your obligations and represents your interests.

Life Insurance Policies provide a powerful gift with big benefits. Small annual installments can provide a substantial gift, your estate is not affected and the gift is not diminished due to taxes, probate or administration fees. You can choose to donate through an existing policy or a new one.

Charitable Remainder Trusts (CRTs) are irrevocable trusts that provide income for two sets of beneficiaries, in this case, you and Pollution Probe. You receive a tax receipt from Pollution Probe now, while earning interest income from the investments during your lifetime. A financial advisor can help you to determine how to establish a trust that best suits your wishes and circumstances.

Registered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSPs) and Registered Retirement Income Funds (RRIFs) are excellent options both for the amount that you can give and the tax benefits that you receive. You can make a gift to Pollution Probe by naming it as the beneficiary under your RRSP or RRIF.

Give a Gift of Securities and pay no capital gains tax. When individuals sell appreciated stocks, mutual funds or flow through shares, they are required to pay tax on 50 per cent of the resulting capital gains; however, if they donate the securities to a registered charity, they pay no capital gains tax. This makes appreciated stocks one of the most cost-effective ways to donate to Pollution Probe. However, please be aware that securities must be transferred, not first cashed in, to be eligible for this tax benefit. Once the transfer is complete, you receive an official donation receipt based on the value of the securities at the close of business on the day they that are received by Pollution Probe. You will receive a copy of Pollution Probe’s newsletter by mail or email. Our newsletter updates donors on the environmental issues important to them, whether in their daily lives or on a larger scale, as well as keeps them abreast of our activities, reports and public events.

Did you know that you can maximize your philanthropic contributions to Pollution Probe, if your employer offers a matching gift program?

In this program, employers match, dollar-for-dollar, employee donations to charitable organizations. Some corporations even double or triple the original donation or match gifts contributed by spouses and retired employees. Companies may also choose to make donations on behalf of their employees’ volunteer efforts.

To find out if your company has an Employee Matching Gift Program, ask the human resources or payroll department. If it does, request donation guidelines and a list of eligible charities. You and your employer will receive an immediate official donation receipt in the amount of your respective contributions.
