Framework for Municipal Zero Emission Vehicle Deployment: Report

PRESS RELEASE: New Framework for Municipal Zero Emission Vehicle Deployment

TORONTO, 13 May 2019 – Pollution Probe, in partnership with the Delphi Group, is pleased to announce the release of the Framework for Municipal Zero Emission Vehicle Deployment report. This report was made possible thanks to the generous support of Natural Resources Canada, Ontario Power Generation and Bruce Power.

Transportation is the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in most Canadian municipalities, where its impacts on human and environmental health are felt most acutely. Consequently, many cities are taking action to limit transportation-related emissions, and are seeking support in the development of plans and strategies to reduce transportation sector impacts through zero emission vehicle (ZEV) deployment.

Earlier this year, the Government of Canada announced its ambitious national ZEV adoption targets. These targets aim for sales of light-duty ZEVs to reach 10% in 2025, 30% in 2030 and 100% in 2040.

“This new report continues Pollution Probe’s leading research which is contributing to the decarbonisation of transportation and achieving Canada’s national zero emission vehicle targets. The Framework for Municipal ZEV Deployment report presents a comprehensive suite of actions that any municipality can customize to reduce emissions from all modes of motorized transport through the increased deployment of electric vehicles. The more than 150 categorized actions laid out in the framework represent leading-edge approaches that will foster ZEV deployment, and contribute to the achievement of municipal climate objectives.”  – Steve McCauley, Senior Director, Pollution Probe
