Maritime Electric – Green Power
Maritime Electric agreed to develop and administer a Green Power marketing program for its customers in conjunction with the government of Prince Edward Island's development of the 5.2 MW North Cape wind farm. The output of the facility is purchased by Maritime Electric with most being sold to provincial and federal government facilities. Maritime Electric can, however, sell up to 20% of the facility's output to business and residential customers through its Green Power program, which was launched in December 2001. By the end of 2003, 396 of the company's 56,400 residential customers and 34 of the company's 11,225 commercial/industrial customers were participating. Today, the program is fully subscribed as the 20% turbine output reserved for green power customers is sold out. There are currently no plans to extend this successful program to enable more customers to sign up. www.maritimeelectric.com/greenpower.html
