Environmental Policy Development

Informing and influencing responsible environmental policy development by governments and corporations is a major outcome of Pollution Probe's research and education mandate. The Probe Approach is to bring together leading scientific researchers and policy thinkers in government, industry, and environment and health groups in well-designed workshops, conferences and other forums to share their knowledge and insights into complex environmental and human health issues. Pollution Probe uses these forums to get the information needed to publish reports and other resource documents that all stakeholders can use to promote progressive policies and programmes to protect and enhance human and environmental health.

Environmental policy development projects managed by Pollution Probe include environmental standard setting, voluntary initiatives, risk assessment and the precautionary principle, and public disclosure of environmental information.

Pollution Probe is a member of the Green Budget Coalition which researches and submits proposals to the Government of Canada outlining ways the Department of Finance can protect Canada’s environment while improving Canada’s competitiveness.  For more information, see www.greenbudget.ca.
