This report examines Ontario’s role in a national mercury
elimination and reduction strategy. The main focus is on two areas in
which Ontario can significantly reduce emissions — from the residential
sector through phasing out and/or increasing the collection and
recycling of mercury-containing products, and by phasing out mercury use
in the health care sector.

The
purpose of Pollution Probe's Mercury Primer is to provide an overview of
the presence and effects of mercury in the environment and its impacts on
human health. The primer identifies where mercury is being used and
released, the risks associated with exposure to mercury, and ways to help
prevent mercury pollution. The primer also describes what governments,
businesses and individuals are doing to eliminate the use of mercury and
prevent its release to the environment.

Mercury
in the Health Care Sector: The Cost of Alternative Products
Published 1996
This report was written to provide health care facilities with general
cost information (both direct and indirect) on mercury containing products
and alternatives. The findings show that hospitals will likely save money
by phasing-out the use of mercury products and diminishing the related
mercury handling and disposal requirements (39 pages).
