products as an alternative (or as a complement) to the fossil fuels and

Towards
a Biobased Economy:
Issues and Challenges Paper

In
Canada there is an increasing interest in shifting to a biobased economy,
which relies on biomass, such as agricultural crops, mill waste and
fast-growing trees, instead of fossil fuels. This report outlines some of
the issues around the production and use of bio-fuels and products. The
report also acts as a catalyst for dialogue about these issues among
representatives from universities and industries, as well as environmental
health groups and farm organizations.

bibliography identifies significant studies and reports published within
the last four years. The report includes 40 international studies covering
economic, environmental, technical and social issues associated with the
new biobased economy. Six of these reports focus specifically on Canada.
