aims to improve municipal water quality, quantity and flow by
fostering and supporting community-based programs and increasing civic
participation in national, provincial and local efforts to control
municipal non-point sources of water pollution.
The
National Water Research Institute (NWRI)
is Canada's leading institution conducting research on Freshwater and their
research is important to the conservation and protection of Canada's water resources.
The Institute has released a
scientific assessment report entitled "Threats
to Water Availability in Canada"
that
identifies the pressures to
Canada
's
freshwater sources. It highlights the need for action on a number of
fronts to ensure Canadians' future access to adequate supplies of clean,
safe and secure freshwater.
This document is a follow-up to
"Threats to Sources of Drinking Water and Aquatic Ecosystem Health
in Canada", released in 2002.
