Pollution Probe applauds new measures to increase energy efficiency in homes and buildings

Toronto, ON — Pollution Probe applauds the federal government for taking steps to help Canadians improve their energy efficiency in order to cope with higher energy prices.

“Today’s announcements on energy efficiency measures, combined with funding for renewable energy in the Budget 2005, lead us in the right direction to address climate change and deal with increasing energy costs at the same time,” said Ken Ogilvie, Pollution Probe’s executive director.

Canada can significantly improve its record on energy efficiency and has tremendous resources of wind, hydro, geothermal and ocean energy to become a world leader in the development of technologies to address climate change.  Ogilvie notes that a comprehensive strategy on energy efficiency and renewable energy will be required to take full advantage of these opportunities.
