Pollution Probe calls for
Ontario to expand production of
low-impact renewable energy
(Toronto, ON) Pollution
Probe believes that there are significant opportunities for Ontario to expand
its production of low-impact renewable energy as an alternative to developing
large-scale, costly and risky power sources, such as nuclear power and
coal-fired plants.
As Ontario considers how to meet its energy needs,
low-impact renewable energy must be taken seriously as an option, said
Pollution Probes executive director. Canada,
especially Ontario, lags other countries in the production of wind, solar,
geothermal and other energy sources.
Pollution Probe is currently wrapping up a series of five,
progressive cross-Canada workshops, in cooperation with Canadas energy
companies and governments, to determine the requirements to develop and
promote green power in Canada. To review the workshop series and background
document, go to www.pollutionprobe.org/whatwedo/Energy.htm (click
Workshop #5).
To improve understanding of why renewable energy is
important, Pollution Probe has also written an informational primer on
renewable energy, downloadable at www.pollutionprobe.org/Publications/Primers.htm
The primer reviews what renewable energy is, why it is called renewable and
why Canadians should be taking a new look at it.
