GREEN POWER: Pollution Probe releases Renewable Energy Primer

Easy-to-use booklet explains how renewable energy works, offers quick  facts

(Calgary, AB)  Pollution Probe is pleased to release its new Primer on the Technologies of Renewable Energy today, in conjunction with a Green Power Workshop it is hosting in Calgary.

The Primer on the Technologies of Renewable Energy has been developed to promote greater public understanding of the potential for shifting Canada’s energy generation sources to cleaner and less greenhouse-gas intensive technologies.

This informative 81-page booklet explains what renewable energy is and how it works--how water works as a renewable energy source; how wind can generate large amounts of electricity; solar power; and, biomass technology which develops energy from agricultural crops, fast-growing trees and mill waste.

“Renewable energy is a hot topic” says Ken Ogilvie, Pollution Probe’s executive director.  “It’s something all of us—as individuals, as corporate and government leaders—have to consider, as we face increasing demand for power, ever-dwindling supplies of some traditional fuels, and challenges such as global warming.”  In  particular, low-impact renewable energy – often referred to as Green Power – is increasingly being promoted as essential to Canada’s energy future.

Pollution Probe’s Green Power workshop in Calgary is the fourth of a series of five being run across Canada. The Calgary workshop, February 9-10, features experts from the US, the UK and the Netherlands.

The Primer on the Technologies of Renewable Energy is available electronically at www.pollutionprobe.org/Publications/Energy.htm.
